Inspiration

Disney's Fantasia seeded love of drawing, music and film as a child. As a schoolboy at the NY Worlds Fair I stood transfixed in AWE  feet away from Michaelangelo's Pieta. Influenced greatly by Monet's massive waterlilies, Picasso's Guernica mural, Rembrandt's, Vermeer's and Carravagio's mastery of the brush and lighting. Been fascinated and inspired by DaVinci's infinite curiosity about nature, light, science, invention. I've walked the ruins of the Acropolis in Greece and Mayan and Aztec pyramids in the Yucatan. I delight in photographing the hummingbirds sipping nectar from flowers and lilies blooming in at my backyard Koi Pond and gardens.  Life itself. It all leaves me in awe of the miracle of it all and what people are capable of. All that is from where my own creative works spring.

Techniques & Media

Today much of my work is in the hundreds of murals created within the last decade, The genesis of large scale painted works was the theatrical stage where by 15 I was painting and learning set design. When not on stage performing either music or acting. That also sparked interest and desire to learn film craft. And cameras, from 4x5 and Hasselblad film cameras, to newsroom giant process cameras creating negatives for 4 color Heidelberg presses. Camera curiousity led to digital video, 3D computer graphics and animation. Construction and sculptural techniques and methods started on those stages. Today my film, mural and fine artwork often incorporates several if not all of those accumulated techniques and learning. The point is, each creative medium has some commonality with each of the others and magic happens when they are combined in new and surprising ways. As I try to do in all of my work.

When younger I worked as camera operator and darkroom technician creating large format negatives and color separations  for small and giant 4 color offset presses like the warehouse sized Heidelberg which I also would sometimes operate while working for newspapers and magazines. Today, that experience allows me the ability to produce museum quality fine art prints  the Canon 2000 and 4100 archival fine arts printers in my studio, with a level of quality and color fidelity unmatched by any artist or printer anywhere. Career Highlights

Five years as a designer for the San Antonio Museum Association where I created murals, books, exhibits, banners and graphic materials.

Exhibited several times at NYC National Arts Club in the nationwide juried Annual Pastel Painting Exhibit.

Exhibited on Jumbotron in NY Times Square in the HMVC Gallery's "Vibrant Visions" Juried Exhibition Nov. 18, 2023

Awarded Best in Show in the national juried SMAL exhibit.

Earned 1st Place nationwide at the 1983 SIGGRAPH convention in the Aurora Computer Animation competition.

Creative Director and Production Designer for multiple feature length and short films.

CoAdvised the first place student team in the 1990 National Student Adverting Competition over 250 other universities.

Commissioned for my artistic services by among others: the Alamo, Dinosaur Theme Park, the Indonesian Consulate General, Microsoft, Apple and Dell Computers, the San Antonio Museum of Art, Austin's Embassy Suites Hilton, the Four Seasons Hotels, the Witte Museum, and scores of collectors around the nation.
