Inspired by a performance of the National Symphony in Washington during the fourth of July in 1976 this original Pastel on Rag Board portrait of the first chair cellist from quick sketch studies done during the performance. The original is 30x40" and signed in the lower corner Danal Terry PSA, with the early phonetic spelling that appears on much of his earlier works. Like others in the artist's music series the color palette used represents the musical key signature's tonality. The artist is known for his musical performances in bands and ensembles, including a symphony orchestra at Texas State University. His painted art of musicians integrates that deep musical knowledge and experience in tonality of color. Each hue on the palette, signifies a note within a musical chord interpreted into the color spectrum. Even in this early work done around 1978 the artist's fascination with waves of sound or light, enfuses the work with a sense of motion and energy in the pulsating waves of color in the background where much of the figure blends into the music itself inseparable as performer and performance blend in a visual harmony. The original was exhibited at the juried 8th Annual National Pastel Society exhibition in NYC at the National Arts Club. The PSA after his signature, is an honor allowed only to juried and elected artists into the Pastel Society of America whom have previously accepted and exhibited in the annual juried exhibition.
