This 11 color in studio produced Giclee on canvas reproduces faithfully a home or office sized version of the lifesize mural of a humpback whale created in 1983 for the Witte Museum's Animal Senses Exhibit. Luckily Dan had taken high resolution transparencies of the work on 2 1/4" square film (6 times larger than a 35mm slide) which makes possible this limited edition print. Each print comes with a signed and embossed sealed Certificate of Authenticity. Each of the no more than 10 prints of each offered size in this Masterworks Limited Edition will be printed on canvas with 2" margins for framing or gallery wraps and shipped rolled in a mailing tube.

Masterwork grade Fine art prints are only those in which the artist not only created the original art, but also personally created the photography of the art, personally color corrected and formatted it for reproduction and personally operated and monitored the printing to insure absolute faithfulness to the original. Only when the master's hand is at the til through the complete creation of every print is the masterworks label attached to any edition. COA included.

This 11 color in studio produced Giclee on canvas reproduces faithfully a home or office sized version of the lifesize mural of a humpback whale created in 1983 for the Witte Museum's Animal Senses Exhibit. The mural remained on display for several years and unfortunately was destroyed during a major expansion of the museum in recent years. Luckily Dan had taken high resolution transparencies of the work on 2 1/4" square film (6 times larger than a 35mm slide) which makes possible this limited edition print each created individually by the artist on an 11 color Canon Pro4000 fine arts printer in the artist's studio. Each print comes with a signed and embossed sealed Certificate of Authenticity.

Each of the no more than 10 prints of each offered size in this Masterworks Limited Edition will be printed on canvas with 2" margins for framing or gallery wraps and shipped rolled in a mailing tube.

This print is derived from the 10 x 35' mural of a near life size Humpback Whale with a pair of playful bottlenose porpoises created for the "Animal Senses" exhibit at the Witte Museum circa 1983 where it remained on display for several years. After the exhibit closed and Dan had left the museum staff to pursue his years teaching at Texas State University, the then exhibits chief, Dennis Bartz, had a protective wall erected in front of the mural to preserve the work while other exhibits occupied the space. Time passed and Mr. Bartz retired, the Director of the museum went on to another museum and the work was largely forgotten for years. In the early 2000s, the museum raised several million dollars and the historic building was completely renovated and in the process the wall on which the mural existed was razed and the work was destroyed. Fortunately the artist had documented the original work with photography taken on site with a Hasselblad 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 medium format camera on transparency film making this print possible for anyone's continued enjoyment.
